My 20 Soothing Activities

We all get overwhelmed sometimes. These are my favorite activities to help me to calm down, ground myself and come back to the present moment. I hope this inspires you.


Body check-up

  • Am I thirsty?
  • Am I hungry?
  • Do I need to take a break?
  • Do I need to stretch?
  • Do I need to get some fresh air?
  • Do I need to text someone or watch some cute videos?
  • What do I need? How can I honor my needs right now?

Exercising

  • Go outside for a walk, take some deep breaths and slow down.
  • Clean my apartment until everything is neat, organized and spacious.
  • Organize my emails, my online storage and everything in my office.
  • Do a calm and repetitive activity like painting or sewing.
  • Pet or play with my dog.
  • 5+ min of yoga.

Relaxation

  • Unplug any electronics.
  • Massage.
  • Guided meditation.

Creativity

  • Listen to my favorite songs.
  • Color, draw, paint or do some dot-to-dot.
  • Clear my mind with journaling activities.
  • Write a postcard to a new friend on Postcrossing.

Connection

  • Tell someone about how I feel via text or phone call.
  • Buy a gift for my wife or a friend.
  • Send a card to someone I love.

Planning

  • Write a step by step list of all my projects.
  • Start doing the project that seems the most fun.
  • Tell someone that I did it and congratulate myself too!
  • Do something that I enjoy to celebrate it!

In the end, I remind myself that taking care of myself is and will always be my absolute priority.
